Chiang Mai é a segunda maior cidade da Tailândia, a capital cultural do norte da Tailândia e da província de Chiang Mai. Situa-se aproximadamente a 800 km ao norte de Bangkok, capital nacional, numa região montanhosa e tem uma população de 1,2 milhão. A cidade é banhada pelo rio Ping, afluente do rio Chao Phraya.
