Acra es la capital de Ghana y del distrito de la zona metropolitana de Acra, siendo además el centro administrativo, de comunicaciones y económico del país. Alrededor del 70 % de la capacidad de manufactura nacional se encuentra en este distrito. Alberga edificios que muestran la transición desde los suburbios del siglo XIX hasta la moderna metrópoli que es hoy en día.
