Heraclión o Herakleion, llamada antiguamente El Khandak, Candía Chandax, Megalo Kástro o Iraklio, es la mayor ciudad y la capital de Creta y de la unidad periférica de Heraclión, siendo además el centro económico, el mayor puerto marítimo de la isla y la cuarta ciudad más poblada e importante de Grecia. Hasta el siglo XX se la conocía como Candía, nombre que se aplicaba asimismo a toda la isla de Creta.
