Darjeeling es una ciudad en el estado indio de Bengala Occidental. Sede del distrito homónimo, en los montes Shivalik la cadena inferior del Himalaya oriental, a una altitud media de 2134 metros. El nombre de “Darjeeling” es una combinación de las palabras en tibetano Dorje (rayo) y ling (lugar), traducido como “La tierra del rayo”.
