Funchal es una ciudad y municipio de Portugal, capital de la isla y de la Región Autónoma de Madeira. Constituye el principal centro urbano, administrativo, económico y cultural del archipiélago, así como el núcleo más poblado de la región. Su puerto y su posición estratégica en el Atlántico han sido determinantes en su desarrollo histórico como escala marítima y centro comercial desde la Edad Moderna.
