Taskent, también documentado como Tashkent o Tachkent (aunque la RAE desaconseja estos usos en español), es la capital de Uzbekistán, así como de la provincia homónima. Su nombre actual significa en turcomano: Ciudad de piedra. En el pasado, también se llamó Chach, Shash y Binkent. Fue durante muchos siglos un punto de paso importante en la Ruta de la Seda, ruta comercial que unía Asia con Europa.
