Johannesburgo es la capital de la provincia de Gauteng, también es la capital industrial de Sudáfrica y la ciudad más poblada, la más rica de dicho país y la cuarta economía más grande del África austral. Coloquialmente los sudafricanos le llaman Joburg, Jozi, o JHB. Asimismo, es considerada el principal centro económico y financiero del país.
